NU Unplugged’s Acoustic Christmas Show, Dec. 8 @ 8:00pm

So…someone told me you hate the holidays. Someone told me you think they’re tacky, that the swelling faces of greed and avarice gross you out. Someone told me that secret santa gives you anxiety. But you know what I say? You just haven’t experienced the NU Unplugged Acoustic Christmas show yet!  NU Unplugged has been spotlighting talented Northeastern musicians for the past Fall semester and is happy to bring you the best acoustic holiday carols around. Seven performers will switch off to sing some well known classics and some not-so-well-known hits, including: All I Want For Christmas Is You, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Winter Song, Mistletoe (yeah, that’s right, the Justin Bieber one), and of course White Christmas.

The show will be in afterHOURS on December 12th (that’s the Monday of finals week, for all of you entombed in tests and papers) from 8:00pm-9:00pm. AND it’s FREE! Consider it a preemptory gift from afterHOURS/NU Unplugged. Featured student performers are: Dan Harcourt, Rene Pelletier, Ben Mallare, Ryan La Sala, Katie McKenna, Lindsay Donald, and Emma Kurman-Faber.  This is a super festive show full of great talent and holiday cheer, so take a study break (aka take a break from refreshing facebook) and get inspired for Christmas! Check out the facebook event HERE.

A mysterious guest group will also be joining the show, and everyone loves a little mystery, right? Russell. Brand. Is. Here.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock and/or have been too distracted by the Kardashian fiasco, you probably have heard of Russell Brand. You know, the same Russell Brand who starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, and Arthur. Oh, he also hosted a small awards show called the MTV Video Music Awards. He’s an actor, comedian, emcee…and WILL BE AT NORTHEASTERN! The show, possibly the most anticipated Homecoming event this year, will be held on Friday, November 18 at 6:30pm. The show is NU+1, costing $10 for students and $17 for guests. Tickets are available on the myTickets tab at myNEU. Check out the Facebook event here, since nothing’s official until it’s Facebook Official.

Before or after you head to Matthews, pop around the corner to Uno’s, where Phi Lambda Sigma (the pharmacy leadership society) will be hosting a fundraiser this Friday, November 18th! Go to the restaurant at any time during the day and a portion of the check will be donated to PLS for various programs and events. Bring your friends, the flyer you see here, and an appetite! This event is guilt-free: you can work everything off laughing at Brand’s hilarity afterwards.

Experiencing a different culture can be difficult in social situations, never mind in professional ones! NU Stage Presents “Spelling Bee”

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is noted as one of Broadways most hilarious and loved classics! With its smaller, more intimate cast of performers portraying quirky and bizarre spelling bee contestants, this show is sure to win the heart of even the iciest evil step-mother!

NU Stage has been bringing great musical performances to the Northeastern Community for years! Some of their past shows include the adorable and hilarious “Seussical The Musical,” which combines multiple stories from the imagination Dr. Se

uss, and “Reefer Madness!” which is the satirical tale of two young teens caught in the throes of a marijuana syndicate bent on converting the world into drug addicted, flesh-eating, baby-selling pot heads!

NU Stage’s rendition of “Spelling Bee” combines some of Northeastern’s best musical theater talent! With its smaller cast, the show’s characters must each portray several roles to keep the story moving. Better yet, the audience is often asked to help out and several random audience members are even selected to perform in the bee!

You won’t want to miss this hilarious show. Tickets are on sale on myTickets tab of myNEU, and can be purchased at the box office!
