Husky Happenings: Quidditch, Froyo, and A Blind Side Star

NU Student Life has been busy with our ear to various Twitter feeds so we can give you a Husky Happenings update! Here’s what’s going on:

Quidditch at Northeastern!

The non-flying (but still fun) version of the broomstick game featured in the Harry Potter series is coming to Northeastern as an intramural sport! While not offered as a club sport at this time, this brings us one step closer to competing on the regional circuit against the likes of BU, Harvard, Tufts, and Emerson, who are all known to have Quidditch teams.

Registration begins on Tuesday, Sept. 25th, and can be done on the Northeastern Intramural website here: http://www.campusrec.neu.edu/intramurals/

They will likely be using the rules from the International Quidditch Association, so you can start playing Hermione and research here: http://www.internationalquidditch.org/rules/

Collins Tuohy at Blackman Auditorium

Tuesday, September 25th, in Blackman Auditorium

Collins Tuohy, the real life daughter of Leigh Anne Tuohy, played by Sandra Bullock in the movie The Blind Side, is coming to Northeastern. She will be discussing the true story behind the movie, her tightknit relationship with her brother Michael Oher, as well as help the audience understand how they can change the lives of others.

Tickets are free and available on MyNEU now. Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:00pm

New Frozen Yogurt Place by Northeastern

Swizzles Frozen Yogurt, a froyo chain with stores in New England and New York, is going to be appearing next door to Uno’s on Hunting Ave., expecting either a January or February opening. As this is right next to Northeastern, it will be competing with the nearby Red Mango as the favorite froyo place for Northeastern students. They are looking into taking the husky card, and will be looking for employees (including Northeastern students) in December.
