It must be Friday- Superwoman, Harlem Rennaissance, Amreeka

superwomanSuperwoman will be on campus today, and we are not talking about the comic book kind. Northeastern’s Delta Phi Omega sorority is proud to host Superwoman! aka Lilly Singh today at 7pm in AfterHours. Lilly Singh is a Punjabi-Canadian comic who first found fame on YouTube. Singh uses YouTube as a platform for addressing concerns that modern South Asian women have today, whether it is poking fun at the stereotypes held by Indian men or dating advice. This event is free but because it is part of their Literacy through Unity initiative, a $5 donation is encouraged at the door.

Looking for a great play to go to tonight? A tribute to Black History month, the Oscar Micheaux Family Theater Program will revisit the Harlem Renaissance Era with a Gospel Flavor at 6:30 in Blackman Auditorium. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the John D. O’Bryant African American Institute, the NU Box Office, or online through myNEU.

Enjoy a critically appraised film that debuted at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival at the Arab Student Association’s Movie Night. Amreeka is a film that follows the lives of a Palestinian American family in both the West Bank and a Chicago suburb post 9/11. This screening, part of Arabic Heritage Week, will take place at 405 Ell Hall from 5-8pm.

Last but not least, come watch the Northeastern Women’s Hockey team take on the Providence Friars at 7pm at Matthews Arena. Let’s go ladies!
