Marshmallow fluff is a New England tradition. Invented in 1917 by Somerville resident Archibald Query, marshmallow creme is now available for sale worldwide. If you are new to Boston and haven’t yet tried a sugary fluffernutter sandwich, do yourself a favor and take part in this Massachusetts custom. Many years later, New England residents are still celebrating Query’s legacy with the eighth annual Fluff Festival.
The Fluff Festival will take place on Saturday, September 28 in Somerville’s Union Square (in the event of rain, the festival will take place the following day) and features everything from musical performances to games. You can even compete for the chance to be crowned the “Pharaoh of Fluff!” If you’re asking yourself “What the fluff?” about this unconventional event, check out the Fluff Festival’s press release.
