It’s not often that I take to the student life blog to talk about shows, but this one is an exception. UK artist John Newman is heating up the US pop charts. Your humble blog authoress lives in a ’90s time warp (last year, I spent more money than I care to admit traveling from San Francisco to London just to see Suede at the Alexandra Palace) but Newman has caught my attention. The video for his hit single “Love Me Again” looks like a Fred Perry ad and most of the dance nights I’ve attended in London, Boston, and San Francisco. If you like Northern Soul, you will like John Newman (and you should probably also check out Soulelujah at Zuzu on Saturday nights if you’re 21+).
Newman makes his US debut on the night of January 6, 2014 at Brighton Music Hall in Allston. This also happens to be the first day of spring classes. Catching a good show is a great way to beat the post-holiday season comedown blues. Tickets are $14 and the show itself is 18+. This show will sell out so if you’re planning to go, I recommend buying tickets ASAP. I’ll be there in my Fred Perry dress!
