Something 4 the Weekend: Sweetheart Edition

UPDATE: ISSI’s Matryoshka workshop originally planned for Saturday has been postponed due to the impending snow storm.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Huskies! It’s a snowy one. Campus is buzzing with some awesome events on Saturday. Elsewhere in Boston, bars and clubs are hosting anti-Valentine’s Day parties if that’s your thing. There’s a good roundup over on BostInno.   • MATRYOSHKA (NESTING DOLL) WORKSHOP
    Saturday, February 15, 2014, 405 Ell Hall – ISSI
    1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

    To celebrate Russian culture, the ISSI is collaborating with the NU Russian Speaking Club to offer a workshop on the Russian folk art tradition of nested doll painting. Matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls) are a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. Participants will design their own dolls and learn the story of the Matryoshka doll. Tickets will be posted through MyNEU on Friday, February 7th.
  • AFRICA NIGHT
    Saturday, February 15, 2014, Blackman Auditorium, Ell Hall
    6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

    Africa Night showcases a taste of Africa to the Northeastern and neighboring community. ISSI Carnevale will provide you, the audience, with a night to remember. Consisting of dance, contemporary fashion, an exhibition of flags, cuisine, music, and a tribute to a distinct cause affecting the diaspora. Cosponsored by NASO and the ISSI. Looking to hear some live music this Valentine’s Night? Soulster Eli Paperboy Reed will be at the Sinclair. The show is 18+ and begins at 9:00. Tickets are $15. Tomorrow night, my boyfriend is taking me to see industrial legends Skinny Puppy at Royale. True romance!

My Valentine’s Day jam always has and always will be “Taste In Men” by Placebo. I’m killing time on Valentine’s/ Waiting for the day to end…

*In sad news, this is my second-to-last weekend roundup. My last day at NU will be next friday, Feb. 21. I’m going to miss you, Huskies!!
