Jazz Inc Dance, Boston’s leading jazz dance production company breaks the boundaries between stage and screen with their latest production, Escaping the Frame, running one night only on Friday, October 10, 2014. This collaborative, interactive concert interweaves live dance performance with original film and photography in Somerville Theatre’s historic, centennial, grand theatre, beckoning audiences to look closer and find the Frame.
Every piece in this show simultaneously reveres the traditions of American jazz dance that have seeped into our collective national oeuvre through classic Hollywood musicals and the roots of vaudeville, while turning all of those traditions on their head and challenging the audience to see them in a new way. Escaping the Frame dares the audience to see differently, but in an approachable way, while speaking their language.
Featuring alumni from several local colleges as well as abroad, Escaping the Frame is choreographed and directed by Stephanie Heroux, BU alumna, and currently on faculty at Emerson College and ART/MXAT’s Acting Institute. The concert also includes a special guest performance by Allegro Dance Collaborative, a company formed by Brandeis Alumni. This is a great opportunity to experience the city and support local artists! Buy your tickets today!
