The New York Festivals Torch Awards – We Want You!

Each year, the New York Festivals award pioneers from all over the world in fields that range from finance to healthcare to film. Now, they want to honor you and your young creative mind with the 2016 Torch Award, celebrating creativity and innovation in youth. Teams of 2 to 4 members between the ages of 18 and 27 are challenged to find a creative solution to one of our world’s most pressing problems. The deadline for entries is February 15th, 2016, so time to get the wheels turning!

inclusive design challenge

This year’s challenge theme is Inclusive Design, a framework for the design of places, things, and information so that they can be used by the widest range of people in the widest range of situations without special adaptations. In short, it’s a challenge to design solutions that can be used by absolutely everyone. The Torch Awards has partnered with the Institute for Human Centered Design, an NGO focused on enhanced experiences through design, to construct the challenge. Here’s how it works:

  1. Gather your team, read the brief, and start working on an awesome idea.
  2. Present your idea through the Digital Media Showcase with images, film, audio, or interactivity.
  3. Be one of five teams selected to take part in the finalist presentation in New York City, including intensive mentorship from a member of the New York Festivals Best Advertising Executive Jury, aka one of the top creative executives in the world. You’ll also get to attend The New York Festivals The New York Show at Lincoln Center, where the Grand-Winning team will be announced live on stage.
  4. The one Grand-Winning team will have the chance to see their idea go live!

Best of all, the whole thing is absolutely free. Some of the past grand-winner and finalist teams have had their ideas picked up by major design firms, and members have used their success to jumpstart awesome careers in human-centered design.

Contest rules and regulation as well as more challenge info can be found on the Torch Awards website.
