Dim Sum in Chinatown
Spice up your Sunday brunch routine with traditional Asian cuisine in the heart of Chinatown. “Dim sum” is most popularly Cantonese bite-sized food served in bamboo steamer baskets. While the food is unbelievably delectable (albeit sometimes a little weird), it is on our bucket list because it is a once-in-a-lifetime eating experience.
Take the Orange line to Chinatown and you’ll have plenty of restaurant options to choose from. Hei La Moon and China Pearl have huge banquet halls where you’ll get the most authentic dining experience, whereas Windsor Dim Sum Cafe has a smaller, more intimate setting with made-to-order dishes.
Weekend mornings and afternoons are bustling with lines out the door. But the biggest obstacle isn’t the occasional wait. There are traditionally no menus; instead, servers push various carts of food around and instantly serve you if you call them over. The dishes are categorized into 3 or 4 distinct sizes each with different prices. Once you choose what you want, they stamp your bill and tally it up at the end of your meal.
