Who’s ready for the weekend?! We’ve got all the best, funkiest, yummiest (and free) events around Boston, so get ready to be busy!
Free Fun Friday
The Highland Street Foundation created this initiative to offer free admission to cultural venues across Massachusetts. Every Friday from now until the end of August, mark your calendars for places like the Franklin Park Zoo and Boston Harbor Islands.
The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston
Admission to the ICA is free this Friday, with art workshops and activities all morning and afternoon. If you plan on coming later in the evening, DJ Beirut will be taking over the turntables as part of their Harborside DJ nights. Evening tickets are $15 for non-ICA members.
Dancing by the Mystic
Assembly Row in Somerville will turn into a giant dance floor Friday night! Take a 30 minute salsa dancing class hosted by the Metamovements Latin Dance Company! This event is completely free with registration— our lips don’t lie! Come get your Shakira on.
The 9th annual Boston GreenFest will be located at Boston City Hall Plaza, Faneuil Hall and Sam Adams Park. This event showcases the newest green innovations, along with music, food, art and films. Green is the new black, haven’t you heard?
Aladdin Movie Night
If you don’t feel like leaving campus (we all have those days), join the Northeastern Alumni Association for an outdoor movie night on Centennial! The event starts at sundown and all current and former students are welcome. Register for free here.
Red Bull Flugtag
On August 20th, Red Bull is hosting its first ever Boston Flugtag event at the Hatch Memorial Shell. The Charles will be transformed into a runaway, where over 30 teams will compete for the top aviation prize. These teams have been working all summer to channel their ingenuity and creativity into the best possible design.
SomerStreets Seize the Summer
Or, head to Davis Square and Teele Square where Holland Street will be closed to vehicles and open to pedestrians only. There will be community vendors, two stages, a giant waterslide (BYO bathing suit) and an aerial performance by Esh Circus Arts. Stop by Somerville Art Council’s SomerStreets event!
